INTRODUCTION
Denver intends to dig a 1 mile long, open ditch in the Cole neighborhood, to catch toxic storm water as it makes it's way over miles of dirty, urban landscape on its way to the South Platte River. The city is trying to sell residents on a wonderful park like amenity but we have some questions about pollution, disease and safety.
The ditch would be dug along 39th Avenue in the I 70 / Vasquez Superfund Site. This paved street has never been remediated
( cleaned up) and may contain toxic soil and water.:https://tinyurl.com/gusewjc It would catch the dirty storm water after it rushes out of historic City Park Golf Course or what is left of it after Mayor Hancock gives it the Globeville Park treatment: https://youtu.be/kTzNhdy6_NI
There is a law suit to save CPGC from the destructive, expensive, out dated drainage project. https://tinyurl.com/gvwwtdu Unfortunately ,there is no law suit yet to save Cole and Globeville from flooding and contamination from the 1964-style drainage project.
The ditch could attract mosquitoes and the diseases that they bring with them to a heretofore dry neighborhood. https://tinyurl.com/z6f7am9It could also bring trash and flooding in the case of the 100 year flood.https://tinyurl.com/jhwoeol

Denver has tried to tell residents in established neighborhoods that this drainage project is all about them and the flooding that they experience due to Denver's neglected and outdated storm water infrastructure. https://tinyurl.com/gwjuvup
However, it appears that the real reason Denver is destroying public parks (https://youtu.be/U5Zy-Ms80AQ) and exposing residents of established neighborhoods (https://youtu.be/df_wGMWRcXs) to contaminants (https://youtu.be/zeHlTCuxHiI)from the I 70 Vasquez Superfund Site (https://tinyurl.com/gqes3gg)is to keep the Boondoggle Highway I 70 expansion and lowering, from flooding .....AND to save developers around the Western Stock Show the full expense of paying for their own infrastructure. There is a much better, safer, less expensive way to mitigate storm water before it becomes toxic run off and to protect our families from the vagaries of climate change and drought. https://youtu.be/gzt69QnKMFs SEE THE NEW VISION FOR I 70: https://youtu.be/YzWyb6LsLrc
Unfortunately , it appears that Denver planners and politicians are stuck in the 1960's, expanding old style polluting, freeways through low income, minority neighborhoods and building outdated drains when we need to preserve open space to conserve rain water and refill our dwindling aquifers.
Mayor Hancock and Governor Hickenlooper and the army of contractors, consultants, campaign contributors, financiers, lawyers, bankers, international cartels, private "partners" , politicians and bond sellers DO NOT want to hear about them. The gravy train will pull out of the station soon if YOU don't speak up.
WE hope to see you at the OPEN HOUSE to review the guidelines that would inform the design of the 39th Avenue Greenway and Open Channel.
Wednesday, March 1... 5:30 - 7:30 pm St. Charles Recreation Center, 3777 Lafayette St. Denver 80205

QUESTIONS & OBSERVATIONS
You may have more of your own to share.
Important words ....the ditch will "improve [storm water run off] water quality! "City of Denver"
• . The Cole Community (OU1 superfund site) will now become the dump to the new OPEN mile long stormwater ditch will that will filter out (treat?) predicted stormwater contamination...?
• . What happens to the "filtered out" contamination in the ditch? It does not disappear.
• . What surface water contamination is projected to collect at this site?
• . Is this "mile long ditch" designed for a "possible" 100 year flood event? Would that cause flooding in neighborhood?
• . How many homes will be taken?
• . What are the types of Toxic pollution contaminants predicted to drain there?
• . Where does the nearby Coca-Cola bottling company discharge their permitted storm water?
• . Is there Any local shallow groundwater contamination that might surface into the mile long ditch?
• . Where are other examples of "Open" Mile Long ditches that filter out dirty stormwater?
• . Is the upcoming event a City of Denver poster board event again like the December 2016 Globeville Landing "beautiful picture" tour for the superfund site?
• . No public meeting or OPEN public discussion for this ditch in a designated superfund area again? Any politicians invited?
• . Will EPA review this new ditch and provide public discussion regarding stormwater issues in superfund sites?
• . WHAT HAPPENED TO THE EPA CITIZENS ADVISORY GROUP (CAG) FOR WORK IN THE SUPERFUND SITE?
• Why was Globeville Landing Park in the superfund Site , recently destroyed before the CAG met? https://youtu.be/kTzNhdy6_NI
• . Will No plastic liner be used to protect this Cole Community drainage ditch like the EPA approved at the Globeville Landing new "open drainage" superfund site?
• What kind of heath surveys have been done in the Cole neighborhood to discover any illnesses related to the Superfund toxins?
• . Does Denver plan to monitor the health of people living near the ditch to pick up trends in cancer, heart disease or other pollution related illnesses such as those caused by elevated levels of lead or arsenic ?
We hope to see you at the Public Open House . We hope that you will ask the City Officials the hard questions.
