Most Jays on campus know about or have seen Creighton's beloved campus cat. Affectionately termed "Mama" in reference to the kittens she had earlier this fall (she is now spayed), Mama is known to stay in her little insulated house outside of Swanson. On the morning of January 30, 2024, Mama's caretakers (students who look after her) were notified that her house had to be removed or Creighton Facilities would throw it away. Any subsequent cat houses placed outside of Swanson will also be taken. This change has led Mama disoriented and without a warm place to sleep during the cold Nebraska nights. Creighton Facilities' decision to take away Mama's house goes against Creighton's core Jesuit value of cura personalis which means "respecting each person as a child of God along with all of God’s creations" (https://www.creighton.edu/sites/default/files/Core-Values.pdf Creighton teaches its students to be men and women of change. Let's stand up to Creight Facilities and show them that we want Mama's house back!
