Tell Congress: Support paid family and medical leave – and pass the FAMILY Act!

The Issue

Paid family and medical leave is about time. Time to care for a new child. Time to help an ailing loved one. Time to handle a serious illness without sacrificing your income or your job.

We all deserve fair and family friendly workplaces, and our nation is at a tipping point. Here’s why:

  • Major companies – like Johnson & Johnson, Goldman Sachs, Vodafone and Chipotle – have substantially improved leave policies for their own employees.
  • Microsoft and Facebook both announced groundbreaking policies – for their communities – that require contractors and vendors to expand benefits for their employees.
  • The Obama administration has taken the boldest actions in a generation through executive actions that affect federal workers and federal government contractors.
  • And there’s unprecedented coverage in mainstream media and even by comedians (HBO’s John Oliver recently aired a gut-wrenching, albeit hilarious indictment of U.S. policies).

This is great progress, but we have more work to do.

Only 13 percent of the workforce has employer-provided paid family leave and less than 40 percent has employer-provided paid medical leave through a temporary disability program.

At the National Partnership for Women & Families, we get it. We drafted and led the fight for the Family and Medical Leave Act, and we’re leading the charge for paid family leave.

So please sign the National Partnership’s petition to urge Congress to support paid family and medical leave and pass the FAMILY Act.

The FAMILY Act is common sense legislation that would establish a national paid family and medical leave insurance program that covers virtually everyone, no matter where they live or work.

Tell your members of Congress to support paid family and medical leave today!
