Today saw several more companies break their ties with the NRA: Lockton Affinity Republic Bank Securian Financial Group This is all great news! The NRA member discounts program is being dismantled. On the other hand, we have the first company that has formally come out saying they will maintain their NRA discount: FedEx. Personally I thought that FedEx's statement was worded in a strange way. Nobody is asking FedEx to discriminate against or refuse service to anyone. We're just asking them to stop offering a discount program. If offering or not offering a discount program consitutes discrimination, that means that all of us who don't get a discount are being discriminated against! So it's time for us to put our money where our mouths are, and make FedEx feel our power as consumers. Don't ship anything with FedEx. Ask your employer to not ship with FedEx. Ask the retailers you use to not ship with FedEx. Open up a UPS account if you are a frequent shipper. And don't go to a FedEx Office store either. And of course continue to contact them and to tweet or Facebook post with the hashtag #BoycottFedEx. If they see a drop in business, they may change their tune. It's worth a try. Meanwhile, we are still left with some more companies on the list. Please look at the Google document for their contact info and let them know you're waiting to hear from them. A few notes on the companies left here and in the Google doc. In addition to the original list of companies on the 5-Star Benefits page, also added companies from the NRA Business Alliance Discounts page, the Life Insurance Central NRA page, and the Direct Long Term Care page. And there is one random one that was linked to from the NRA home page, Holiday Card Center. A note about the Life Insurance Central NRA page. Over the weekend, the logos of the life insurance firms that had been displayed there disappeared. However, visible if you use the Internet WayBack Machine! My guess is that these firms may not even realize that they are offering discounted insurance to the NRA, as their relationship is through Life Insurance Central. (A couple of the firms that have cut ties alreeady were in a similar situation, a third party marketer had set up the NRA relationship.) There is a similar situation of several insurance companies that are listed on the Direct Long Term Care NRA page. As for Visa, the banks offering the NRA VISA prepaid cards and credit cards have now dropped out. However I am keeping them in the boycott because I would like to hear them say that they won't allow another affiliate to issue a new one. We are over 40,000 signatures on this petition, so exciting! Please keep spreading the word. And finally, was honored to see that Morgan Freeman is using our logo as his avatar on Twitter (@mjfree). If you would like to do so also, please do!
