At Coles, our focus is having the right packaging for our products, to protect the product’s freshness and food safety from farm to home. Wherever possible, we aim to have the best environmental outcomes with our packaging as well.

Most of our meat trays are recyclable; where we can, we communicate this on the tray using the recycling triangle.  However, some local councils around Australia don’t accept some types of our meat trays in their recycling programs which means we can’t label all our trays.

We also try and improve the environmental performance of our meat packaging in other ways.  All of our mince packaging is made using 60-80% renewable, plant-based materials. This year alone, this will reduce the carbon generated from the packaging by an amount equivalent to removing over 1000 cars from the road.
