Continue offering Section D of the LARE
Continue offering Section D of the LARE
The Issue
The landscape architecture registration examination (LARE) is arduous and expensive. There are currently five sections that must be passed in order to achieve licensure. Sections C and E are the two most expensive and difficult to pass (based on passing rates published by CLARB). With the reformatting of the examination into four sections, candidates that have passed C and or E but have not passed section D will lose their investment in the licensure process and have to take either or both sections 3(comprised of former sections C&D) and 4 (comprised of former sections E&D) .
CLARB announced changes to the exam format in July 2011. Because sections are only offered twice a year, this gave candidates only a few months and two times to pass section D before the reformat. Many candidates were unaware or unclear about the implications of the new format and did not understand that if they had passed C and or E but did not pass section D by the spring of 2012, they would lose their passing scores and time, effort and money expended in passing C &/or E.
Tell CLARB to continue offering section D for at least one additional year through spring 2013 to allow candidates the opportunity to retain their passing scores for the graphic sections. Due to the computerized administration of section D, this is a reasonable request.
