The Issue

As a user on change.org who often makes petitions, I am deeply disappointed with the new 'Start a petition' homepage. I have mostly written my petitions from scratch myself, only rarely using AI to make the petitions. Now, Change.org is forcing all users to generate their petitions using AI, both the text and the image, and the only way to get to the 'write a petition' is just to wait until the AI draft is generated. This is unacceptable.

While AI may be easy and convenient, it's a disgrace for many petition starters who would want to start their petition from scratch, not wanting AI to rely on them. But clearly, change.org is now forcing users to have their petitions made by AI, and there isn't even a option to go for writing the petition/uploading images yourself unless you wait until the AI draft is done. AI has received significant controversy in the past due to it's fears of replacing actual jobs, ending up in poor quality, and often being slop. Perhaps, this means that users are being forced with AI, they often end up being much lazier, and AI has been scientifically proven to often be inaccurate.

Instead of forcing AI on everyone, change.org should rely on a better system that either allows users to use AI to generate the petition, or write the content in their petition themselves directly at first if they wish, without arbitrarily forcing them to AI. This makes it more convenient and easier for many users.

What the homepage should look like is that users should NOT be forced to use AI at first, but directly when you click the button, at first, it pops up with both options to either write the petition yourself or generate it with AI. I agree AI can be useful in some cases, but it becomes problematic when you shove it down users' throats and force everyone on it.
