Minnesota just made history by becoming the first state to sue the Trump administration over its threat to cut federal funding from schools that allow transgender girls and women to play on girls’ sports teams. Now it’s California’s turn to lead.

California is home to the largest transgender population in the United States. That’s not just a statistic, it’s a call to action. Thousands of trans youth across the state are at risk of losing access to affirming, inclusive sports programs simply because they are being targeted by executive orders rooted in discrimination.

Governor Gavin Newsom has already taken a stand against federal overreach. He's challenging harmful tariffs, defending immigrant rights, and standing up for California’s autonomy. This moment is no different.

If Minnesota can stand up, so can we.

We urge California’s leaders, Governor Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta, to follow Minnesota’s example and file suit against the Trump administration’s attacks on trans youth and state sovereignty.
