For years Selena has graced television screens through TELEMUNDO showcasing her immense talent and zest for life. She opened doors for countless Latinas and at the mention of her name , inspiration and possibilities are evoked in the hearts and minds of her fans and of people around the world from all walks of life. At 23 years old Selena lived and practiced an upstanding life. She stressed the importance of abstaining from drugs and alcohol. Was an advocate against domestic violence. Encouraged kids to stay in school, was deeply committed to her work and family and was quick to remind people that "the impossible is always possible." She defied and conquered every barrier put before her as a woman in a male-dominated genre. Selena put Tejano music on the map and blew the doors of oppression, prejudice and ignorance to smithereens. With her hard work, beautiful smile and celestial voice she has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who listen to her timeless music and remember her crusade for youth, culture and entrepreneurship. It is very disheartening to her family and fans to realize that one of the networks that has honored her star in the past is now entertaining such a sensationalized and grievous endeavour. "El Secreto De Selena" is an extension of the controversial and lie-filled book by Maria Celeste. It has caused an outrage among the Latin community and caused much emotional distress to those who knew Selena and love her to this day. This work of fiction implies that Selena brought her untimely MURDER upon herself and lived a scandalous and dark life out of the public eye. The lies perpetuated by Yolanda Saldivar and Maria Celeste are an attempted scar across Selena's name. It is offensive and needlessly gory to see the portrayal of "Selena" bleeding to death with an open chest on the operating table, seeing sexual affairs conveyed and floating the lie that Selena was a hypocrite and the complete antithesis of the personality she exhibited in public. We ask you to please put morality before the almighty dollar and take notes from A&E network which listened to their audience and decided to not air an offensive and controversial, divisive series before it ever got a pilot. Please do not air this pain-inducing show. Respect the Quintanilla family who so senselessly and cruelly lost their daughter , sister and wife. This is a slap in the face to anybody who has lost their loved one to a violent act. It sets a dangerous precedent for people who committ violent crimes. That they may be given a platform or become famous (or infamous). Remember Selena as the good person she was and keep her dignity intact. Thank you.
