End the Dog Ban at Connecticut State Campsites!

End the Dog Ban at Connecticut State Campsites!
The Issue
CT is one of only two states in the USA that have an outright BAN on dogs in state campgrounds. My family and I found out about this ban last summer, after gearing up enthusiastically for camping vacations with our two dogs. We were so disappointed to find that our own state does not allow us to camp with our furry family members at state campgrounds.
This ban forces many in-state and out-of-state campers who would enjoy camping in the beautiful state of Connecticut to seek campsites in NY, MA, and RI, rather than staying here and being forced to leave Rover at home. That is revenue for the state parks, restaurants, shops and nearby tourist attractions lost!
Other states have designated dog-friendly areas in their campgrounds to allow those who don't want to be near dogs to have that option. Most have strictly enforced rules about leashes, cleanup and barking to make sure that canine visitors are well behaved and not a nuisance. Some also require proof of a local license, which encourages compliance with licensing of pets and the revenues they bring. State campgrounds would also have higher occupancy rates and thus enjoy higher revenues if dogs were permitted.
Going camping without our furry family members is just not the same. What is a campfire without our best friend by our side? Please, urge Senator Kennedy and Governor Malloy to change this senseless policy and allow dogs to camp with us here in CT!
