Social media is the modern-day equivalent to the town square, the local bar, the place you go to hang out. It is more than people just wasting time posting pictures of their cats and children. It has evolved into a place where people engage each other in debate on policy and express ideas. It is a place where people get together and share each other’s companionship on live streams, come out to the world, and even meet the person they end up spending the rest of their life with.

Unfortunately, our town square has become centralized by a handful of very powerful corporations that have their footprint in every developed and developing country in the world. This centralization has caused censorious behavior and the employees of these gigantic entities have made these platforms their personal social engineering projects.

Watching our United States representatives talk about social media and Internet censorship is as laborious and frustrating as watching an infant do calculus. They are very good at acting and pretending to be angry, but it is very clear they are unaware what their constituents and other fellow citizens are experiencing in this landscape. Either that, or they don’t care.

One person that has shown to be very up to date on this topic is independent journalist and political commentator Tim Pool. He has shown time and time again that he has the ability to be impartial. Tim is also well aware of the problems and implications of the issues regarding social media and Internet censorship. He has stated on numerous occasions that he doesn’t know the answers, but I feel confident that if he can be convinced (and invited) to provide his perspective to our representatives in Congress, it will be a unique and enlightening perspective that will help our country deal with one of the biggest problems of our age.

Our nation has survived the robber barons of old, now it is time to confront them again.
