Tear down Indian Residential Schools and put up Memorials

Tear down Indian Residential Schools and put up Memorials
The Issue
With the out cry for justice from the Indigenous community and many Canadian citizens for the horrors experienced at the hands of Indian Residential Schools in Canada, I am proposing we tear down the residential schools and build memorials in their place to acknowledge what is very disheartening and a dark part of our Canadian History. Those who are survived, those who have past and those who never left the schools deserve recognition and healing. Please join me in signing this petition asking our government to empathetically join an alliance with those survived to put to rest what happened behind those walls, by tearing them down!!
Some might feel there is importance in these historic buildings. I agree preserving history is important usually but in the case of these schools what they represent should not be preserved or protected. A history of the location yes, but honoring those children that died in these places, or survivors who get PTSD just thinking about them should be replaced with a monument that is worth caring and protecting for our future generations going forward. One that respects the tradition of the story being past down. Right now they just stand as a reminder of the hell, and reinforce that message of compliance with no choice. Replace it with something that is respectful of the Ancestors.
The land should forever become scared land that honors the history of what was a cultural genocide of the native culture to Canada being that of the Indigenous people.
