I am an 8th grade CPS student. Some of my classmates will say that we do get taught about global warming, but we just get the basic "the ice caps are melting" and "don't use too much plastic" when Earth Day rolls around. This is stuff they should be teaching Kindergarteners. As middle schoolers, we should know about what could very likely happen in less than a decade. I know that COVID has made any kind of education more difficult, but either way we have to make an effort. 

Everyone keeps saying how when I get to high school it will be better. That we will learn about global warming, but we don't have until everyone gets into high school. Even younger children need an education on global warming. When they say kids are the future I have to wonder if they really mean it, considering this country and many others have done a very bad job of preparing for the future. If this generation does not get a proper education on this important issue, there will not be a future for us. 

So this is what I ask:

I ask that CPS make it mandatory for teachers to educate students about global warming. They must teach the impacts of it and what we can do to help. The teachers must make it clear that climate change, also known as global warming, has a large effect on our planet. They must teach the facts from scientists, but also allow the students to express their opinions. If possible, the teachers will lead projects that connect to the research being done. I also request that certain amount of funding for each school is set aside specifically for materials and other things that will help students like myself learn about global warming.
