The Photographer’s Playground

The Photographer’s Playground

The Issue

The AV, a place many of us call home & love despite there not being much to do. This place is sort of a breeding ground for many photographers who only have the Viewpoint, Apollo Park, & a few other locations to shoot at. But imagine, one more place on that list where we could all go & create & show that there’s a lot of talent out here. The newly built school on Ave R & 40th Street east is a lovely building with some very cool aesthetics that would make for some very cool photographs from the perspective of different photographers. Since it’s not going to be opened as a school, instead of gating it off & putting No Trespassing signs everywhere, I propose we turn it into a safe space for photographers to go with their models/clients or just their cameras & imaginations. The Photogrpahers Playground would be great for up & coming photogrpahers in or out of high school who have a true passion for the art form. It’s a big enough space for multiple photographers to be there at one time & could produce some great collaborations. For $20/hr a photographer can really do work! It’ll bring the community together & also give a photographer a new place to put their ideas into action. In conclusion, the school should be turned into The Photographers Playground instead of being torn down right away. Of course we’d need staff to oversee a few things but it’s still be a great thing for the AV.
