“The Cardigan” was released on Taylor Swift’s official merchandise store along with the release of the American singer-songwriter’s eighth studio album entitled ‘Folklore’. The album's second track titled “cardigan” was the inspiration for the merchandise item. The cream-colored cable knit cardigan has black matte buttons, a dark gray trim, light gray star embroidery on both arms, and a light gray album title patch on the left chest with dark grey font. It was met with excitement by fans (known as swifties) who all RUSHED to purchase their very own cardigan to call their favorite. The cardigan was also released in two other color variations gray with green detailing and beige with red detailing. All variations of the cardigan were available for purchase for a limited time in 2020 upon the release of Folklore and Evermore (Swift’s ninth album) only to never be restocked again on Taylor’s merchandise store. This failure to restock left thousands of swifties without the ability to purchase their very own cardigan. Resellers/scalpers on the internet have taken advantage of the lack of restocking on Taylor’s official store by placing cardigans on the market for as high as $700+ when the original retail value was $65. This petition calls for a restock on Taylor Swift’s official store for us “cardigan-less” swifties. A great number of us have had to feel like “an old cardigan under someone's bed” without owning our very own cardigan to wear. 

2023 UPDATE-

Since the creation of this petition, we've seen two TINY restocks of the cardigan. There was a small restock during Taylor's 2022 black Friday sale where less than a handful of Swifties were able to purchase a cardigan of their own. We've seen one more restock of the original cardigans for the 2023 "stars aligned" collection. Unfortunately due to the limit being 10 cardigans per person, most if not all of the inventory went into the hands of scalpers/resellers instead of Swifties looking for their very own cardigans. We've seen a stock of other cardigan-related items such as potholders and scarves made with the same material.  UMG's merch fulfillment has made it obvious that they are more than capable of creating more cardigans, they're just choosing not to.
