There is a nature crisis in the UK. Our country is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world and 1000 British species are at risk of extinction. Hedgehogs especially are in big trouble. Repeated studies have shown that they are being wiped out. According to Hugh Warwick, an ecologist and author who has been studying hedgehogs for 30 years, a key cause of them dying out is that our landscapes are being fenced off into ever smaller fragments. New housing developments should include hedgehog highways,13cm holes that allow hedgehogs to move freely between gardens to find food and a mate. This simple move would have a big impact on our hedgehogs and it is cheap and easy for developers to carry out. It would also help frogs and birds. Bovis Homes are the first building company to have committed to installing hedgehog highways to new and existing developments. I live in a Taylor Wimpey house in Rossendale and other developments are being built in the area.  It would be fantastic to see Taylor Wimpey follow Bovis’s lead. Please sign and ask Taylor Wimpey North West to commit to this measure in Rossendale. Thank you.
