Overview: Presidential Medal of Freedom
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the Nation's highest civilian honor.
"This Medal may be awarded by The President to any person who has made especially meritorious contributions to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors."
Any individual or group may make recommendations to the Presidential Rank Award Distinguished Review Board with respect to the award of the Medal, and the Board shall consider such recommendations for nomination, under the authority of Executive Order 12107 from the Director of the Office of Personnel Management.
Taylor Swift, a renowned singer-songwriter, has made significant cultural contributions to music and society that warrant consideration for the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2024.
With 14 Grammy Awards; an Emmy Award; 8 Academy of Country Music Awards; 40 American Music Awards; 20 People's Choice Awards; 40 Billboard Music Awards; 12 Country Music Association Awards; and 14 Nashville Songwriter Awards, Taylor Swift is one of the most decorated artists in contemporary music. In 2022, she was named the Songwriter-Artist of the Decade by the Nashville Songwriters Association International.
In addition, she holds an honorary Doctorate Degree in Fine Arts from New York University. Several universities are also teaching courses centered on her songwriting as poetry and literature.
Beyond her musical and academic achievements, Taylor Swift has consistently used her platform to advocate for societal causes such as: human rights initiatives; cancer & covid treatments; city schools & education; weather disaster relief; food banks; animal welfare; environmental protection; and autism research.
