This is a call to action for all community members within the Westmont Hilltop Area School District. Recently our school board made a ruling that will allow segregation to enter our schools by mandating masks be worn by anyone who is unvaccinated and giving those who are vaccinated the choice to wear or not to wear a mask. This will welcome conflict amongst the vaccinated and unvaccinated (children and adults) which will impede the students learning experience, be damaging to our students and teachers mental and physical health and well being, and it disregards the parents rights to make decisions that we feel are best for our children. Please join us in making your voice heard by signing this petition to urge the school board to re-evaluate their decision taking into account the long term negative repercussions this will have within our school district and community. This choice should be placed in the hands of the parents and guardians of our children. According to FERPA, children’s educational records include their medical records such as vaccines. These records are to be confidential and only shared with professionals directly involved in student care. Telling students who are unvaccinated to wear a mask maybe in violation of their medical privacy and confidentiality. FERPA can affect federal school funding if they are found to be in violation.
