Tax cut on petrol in Australia

Tax cut on petrol in Australia
The issue
The Australian people are requesting the Australian government to cut fuel excise. The reduction in fuel tax is essential to the lives and livelihoods of many individuals and businesses.
Currently the government taxes petrol at 44.2% with an additional 10% gst. We, the consumer are paying 45.8% for petrol and 54.2% in taxes.
The price of petrol as of March 2022 is exorbitant. Many individuals and small business owners are still suffering financially and/or trying to rebuild savings and equity as a result of the pandemic. The petrol prices place a huge flow on impact on household spend, and an additional financial burden on many.
Once again those who do not have the luxury in working from home suffer most. These are the people who should receive a subsidy first and foremost.
The Australia people deserve a break, and in this instance, the lowering of petrol prices to allow temporary relief. This is very much needed for so many still suffering from the financial impacts of the pandemic.
