Safety at the Tauriko/ Cambridge road intersection

Safety at the Tauriko/ Cambridge road intersection

The issue

There are many turning complications evident at the Cambridge road- Tauriko T-intersection. It is most dangerous if you are trying to turn right toward the Tauriko school/gas station, from the end of Cambridge road. We need the implementation of  round about (or traffic lights, I personally feel a round about would work better) to ensure safe turning manoeuvres are successfully executed, resulting in less accidents. Extra merging options and availabilities to control the amount of traffic build up down Cambridge road and also between Tauriko and the Lakes round about would also need to be considered and implemented.

This has been talked about through the NZ Herald, but was hopefully going to be implemented before 2022. I feel the rate of traffic and danger is increasing dramatically due to the amount of migrants from other areas of NZ being now more present in the bay. This also poses trouble, as most of the people using this area will be from out of town (mostly from over the Kaimais) meaning they will be unfamiliar with the road layout and this therefore increases the risk of crashes and avoidable fatalities. Non-local drivers take longer when trying to make the right turn from Cambridge road right onto SH29 as they are not used to it. I’ve found that other local road users get increasingly impatient, toot their horn, making the inexperienced driver feel they need to go when they are feeling unsafe, potentially resulting in a crash.

The article I came across involving this information was published mid 2017, but I have not seen or heard further progresss.

Thought I would give this a shot and see if other people also share the values and understanding unsafety of this intersection. Thanks for your support should you choose to sign or share ❤️
