Provide a safe way for Welcome Bay School kids to cross the road.

The issue

For the children that attend Welcome Bay School and live down the hill, over the road and beyond (Oteki Park Drive, Waikite Road, Ballintoy Park Drive etc) there is no safe place to cross over an increasingly busy road to make it home.

I have watched kids dashing to the middle and being stuck between cars coming from both directions at speeds up to 70 kph in a "safe kids school zone " of 40 kph. Cars seem to go slow directly outside of the school then speed up toward the bottom of the hill where the makeshift island crossing is that the kids use to cross. The 40 kph zone actually continues until almost at Arawata Street but very few follow this.

The last few years have bought about alot of housing development in the area and more kids living in the opposite direction. The developing sees many tradies and trucks now passing by the school and much more traffic too. It is only a matter of time before someone hits one of our tamariki and as far as I'm concerned that is too late to make changes! We need to push now!

I am requesting your help to put forward a simple solution to council of either zebra crossing, speed bumps or more signage by simply signing this petition in support and by saying you agree that the council need to provide a safe option for our kids.

I have been and will continue to stand and stop traffic to ensure the safety of these kids but I need your help to put a proper solution in place.
