Taunton’s town bus services need supporting

Throughout the county, Somerset Council support bus services to keep our communities connected and thus a lifeline to many residents, who without a bus service would be isolated, from Wiveliscombe to Langport and Wincanton to Cotford St Luke, Somerset support 84 services and this is welcomed by the Somerset Bus Partnership and for the championing by Cllr Richard Wilkins. Over the last two years Taunton was the focus of Bus Improvement funding which introduced a £1.00 fare across the town and saw bus patronage rise as a result, this continue after a modest rise to £1.50. Everyone agreed this was good for the Taunton and had a positive impact on travel, but its withdrawal at the end of March this year and bus service changes in Taunton, has seen this growth falter and has been noticed by passengers of a decline in numbers. The impact on this decline is likely to see further changes making the services unattractive, we need to campaign for more funding, connected our urban areas to places of work, improve frequency’s and reduce the impact of congestion and road works on our vital bus services, so please help by signing up today
