A Fastrack (a TATA brand) ad depicting a woman with 'SALE' label on her is all over the city - in the hoardings and on the net too. The watches, bags, sunglasses selling brand is promoting its 20% discount by putting the sale tag on - not a watch, not a bag, neither a sunglass, but a woman, which makes one wonder, is she on sale too?
At a time when rapes are frequent, gender equality is far from a reality, it is necessary that such instances of misogyny do not go unnoticed and un-protested, whether it is society telling the rape victim that she was raped because she wore skimpy clothes, whether it is the husband telling the wife that she should 'learn her place', or whether it is a company objectifying women - depicting them as commodities.
