As the parties in the Grandstand story together work through the formal steps necessary to reopen the Grandstand for public use, a small team of volunteers from the Golden Bay Grandstand Community Trust and the Golden Bay Grandstand Restoration Society along with individual supporters met during the weekend (Sunday 26th August) to tidy up the exterior of the grandstand building and apply paint to wall patches.
With the help of a local architectural designer Andy Clark liaising independently with Council, the decision was unanimous the group should make a start on cleaning up and making the area around the grandstand look more presentable. The group working bee concentrated on the area between the Grandstand and the Rec centre, removing loose concrete bits and other rubble lying around including random signs and other timbers, and painting the boards on the North side to match the adjacent panels
Meantime, registration of interest has been invited for the use of the original rugby rooms beneath the Grandstand and various suggestions and ideas are now forthcoming.
Although the formalities are taking time initial indications are that a positive working relationship between all parties is possible. Fingers crossed that our next update will be to click the victory button.
We thank you for your continued support - we are now daring to hope that a positive end is in sight.
