On 27 June 2018 the High Court made an order restraining Tasman District Council (TDC) from acting further on its demolition decisions until the determination of judicial proceedings brought by the Golden Bay Grandstand Community Trust Inc and The Golden Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Association Inc. On 28 June 2018 five TDC councillors tabled a Notice of Motion to rescind the demolition decision. The resolution was passed unanimously. The resolution is below: Moved Cr Brown/Cr Sangster 1. requests that the Chief Executive prepares a report on the Golden Bay Grandstand for discussion at a workshop with Councillors, staff and key stakeholders ahead of the next Council meeting, on the options to leave the Grandstand in-situ; and in the meantime 2. invites the Golden Bay Restoration Society or the Golden Bay Community Grandstand Trust or any other entity to apply for a lease under the Reserves Act 1977 to allow use of the Grandstand building; and 3. agrees that subject to a successful lease application, the Grandstand stairs be re-instated by the lessee to allow use of the facility provided that the works otherwise comply with the Building Act 2004 and any health and safety obligations; and 4. agrees that the remaining funds allocated for demolition be made available to the lessee for restoration building works. CARRIED We thank the councillors who supported and signed the rescinding Notice of Motion: Paul Sangster, Dana Wensley, Dean McNamara, Mark Greening, David Ogilvie and Anne Turley The grandstand is still being occupied (35 days and counting) while the workshops are taking place as there have been threats of arson, nevertheless spirits are high as, for the first time in two years, the grandstand is no longer under the threat of demolition.
