We have made a couple of changes to the petition that we would like to tell you about. Because of the Local Government Elections underway now in Tasman District the membership of the Golden Bay Community Board has changed. For this reason Carolyn McLellan, outgoing Chairperson of the Community Board, has been removed as a recipient of this petition and replaced with Mayor Richard Kempthorne. We have discovered far more about the history and unique heritage value of the grandstand and this information has been added to the petition letter. What is happening now: Currently we are waiting on Heritage New Zealand's response to Tasman District Council's application to demolish the grandstand. Our efforts to have the decision to demolish rescinded by the Council have so far been unsuccessful however we are still trying. An incorporated trust has been set up under the name Golden Bay Grand Stand Community Trust (register number 2646831) with the object of raising money to help with the preservation and restoration of the grandstand.
