15 juil. 2016 — Photograph: TV3 Story filming in the grandstand on Thursday 11 July 2016 We now represent a lot of people who are very supportive of our efforts to retain the heritage grandstand. The decision to demolish was based on erroneous information and went against the wishes of a significant number of Golden Bay residents whose opinion and needs were overlooked. If Council would reconsider their decision, this matter could be resolved quickly and with little or no cost, and so we are in the process of asking TDC to rescind the decision to demolish. We are absolutely positive that the grandstand will not detract from the new facility in any way. On the contrary we believe it will enhance and complement it. Though we would dearly love not to need any further plans, we are keeping the campaign bubbling with preparation for a judicial review, and our own report for Heritage NZ. We are corresponding with the Minister of Local Government and the Office of the Ombudsman. We are in the process of forming a Charitable Trust or an Incorporated Society (looking at the best option) for fundraising to promote and assist in the preservation and restoration of the grandstand. We have set up a bank account for donations into a fund for people who would like to help us with costs. Bank details are at the bottom of this update. Please note that we do not yet have charity status so any donations are not tax deductible. We will let you know when we are registered. We still have the petition to the House of Representatives continuing for the time being at Hammer Hardware and Golden Bay Pharmacy. The media have really helped to keep the issue alive and in the public eye where it really needs to be - local freelance reporter Gerard Hindmarsh was instrumental in getting the grandstand on television! It will be aired early next week (Monday or Tuesday) on TV3 Story. There have been also more great newspaper articles: www.stuff.co.nz/nelson-mail/82046937/surprise-offer-made-in-historic-golden-bay-grandstand-battle www.stuff.co.nz/nelson-mail/news/82115103/call-to-retain-grandstand-in-golden-bay-gathers-support It is really encouraging news to read in the second article that on Wednesday, the Golden Bay Museum Society Inc passed a resolution to write to the council in support of the grandstand being retained. The chairwoman of the society 'wearing her personal hat' suggests that the origin of the whole problem may well have been that the heritage aspect of the building was not assessed by the council in the first place. We truly believe that following this required procedure would have gone a long way to preventing the current situation. It seems to us that it is getting to the stage where demolition will do far more harm than good. A large part of the Golden Bay community feel that they were overlooked in the consultation process and are rightfully indignant. The claim by council that the consultation was adequate is simply not compatible with the massive number of people in the community who have come forward to say that they just did not know about it. For the good of the district it would be really preferable for Council to reverse the decision to demolish the grandstand. This would save so much time and ratepayers’ money and unneeded stress for everyone. If you would like to add your voice to achieve this please either write to Mayor Richard Kempthorne at Tasman District Council, 189 Queen Street, Private Bag 4, Richmond, Nelson, 7050, NZ OR hand it in to the TDC Takaka office OR email (Attention: Mayor Richard Kempthorne info@tasman.govt.nz). Many thanks for all your continuing support. Jill and Bryony Pearson aka Two Little Old Ladies Bank Account Details: Bank of New Zealand Account Name: Grand Stand Account Number: 02 0764 0027297 025
