Looks like our House of Representatives petition may get used after all, so if you would like to sign the paper petition you can still find it all this week at: Wholemeal Café Golden Bay Pharmacy De-Lish Delicatessen Hammer Hardware Take Note We thank the petition hosts once again for their contribution to this community cause. The signatures just keep on coming in! Last day to sign (at this stage) is Monday 27 June 2016. So what happened at the meeting on 9 June 2016?? At the Tasman District Council (TDC) Full Council meeting the decision to demolish the Grandstand was voted in. But listen to how they did it: Despite being in frequent email contact prior to the meeting, Mayor Richard Kempthorne failed to tell us that he had granted speaking rights at the meeting to the Golden Bay Shared Recreation Facility Committee (GBSRFC) this despite it being advertised as having No Public Forum. As such we had one person present expecting to only be able to listen to the councillors debate the decision. The GBSRFC had prepared a lengthy talk with Powerpoint presentation. This omission of information was deliberate and unfair and yet, in hindsight, is probably not unexpected. It appears that TDC has not played by their own rules throughout this whole new recreation facility development. We have, through the appropriate channels, questioned TDC's governance over the actions and decisions of the GBSRFC and are awaiting the official responses. We are at times disheartened by the misinformation that continues to be printed as truth on various media sites and in the Golden Bay Weekly (www.gbweekly.co.nz/) and the TDC publication Newsline (www.tasman.govt.nz/tasman/newsline-online/newsline-377-17-june-2016/). We will hopefully have an accurate and fascinating article out next week in a local publication and will let you know where you can read it. The ever-growing support of the community is a huge source of strength and we thank you. Please keep spreading the word and questioning what you are being told by those people who maintain there is no other future for the grandstand than demolition. We're still here! We still do not oppose the new recreation facility! But we think the community really wants to keep its grandstand! Two Little Old Ladies (Backed by over 450 supporters!)
