I need your help to ask the Target Corporation to follow the example set by Petco and PetSmart and become the next national retailer to remove dangerous and potentially deadly pet treats from its stores. Target stores are responsible for a huge share of the national pet treat market.
Official figures indicate that 5,600 dogs, 24 cats, and 3 humans have become sick from contaminated jerky treats made in China. This figure sadly includes more than 1,000 dogs who suffered terribly and died. These illnesses are horrifying and often leave behind problems that will last the entire lives of our beloved pets. The FDA is actively investigating jerky treats from China and has issued numerous warnings and cautions that there is an unknown substance in the treats that is harming pets.
My name is Tracey and my dogs Ginger and Sophie nearly lost their lives from eating unsafe treats from China.
Ginger's suffering was the worst with bloody diarrhea, vomiting, and two trips to the ICU. After Ginger became sick we had Sophie tested and we were devastated to learn that her liver function results were off the charts! Both of my girls will have lifelong consequences from eating pet treats made in China and require daily medication just to stay alive.
Petco and PetSmart just took the lead to remove all treats from China to protect our dogs and cats from future tragedies. Why won't Target do the same?
As a regular and loyal customer, I urge Target to follow its competitors' lead! Petco's CEO Jim Myers said: “We know some pet parents are wary of dog and cat treats made in China, especially Chicken Jerky products, and we’ve heard their concerns.” Petco and PetSmart listened to their customers' concerns and acted! It's time for Target to do the same.
This is a massive threat to our families, and something must be done because these treats are injuring and killing our pets.
Please join me and demand that the Target Corporation stop selling dangerous and potentially deadly pet treats from China!
