With hundreds of millions of dollars being invested in redevelopment in downtown Memphis, we are still lacking the convenience of a department store for the nearly 30,000+ (and GROWING) residents of downtown Memphis. Forbes has called downtown Memphis one of Americas "Emerging Downtowns" and we have been featured on several travel sites and magazines as one of the top travel destinations in the USA! Memphis has also been named one of the top 10 cities for Millennials! (As they are FLOCKING to our city!!!) Here is why Target would fit GREAT in downtown: Bringing a department store (like a CityTarget) will be very convenient for our millions of visitors and nearly 30,000+ residents alike! At the moment, residents/visitors have to drive to West Memphis or East Memphis to travel to a Target or Wal-Mart. In my opinion, this makes no sense. If you look the population of downtown, it is basically the size of a small city... and what city of nearly 30,000 doesn't have a Wal-Mart/Target?! I can assure you, if Target comes downtown, it WILL HAVE HUGE SUPPORT and do great business. And top it off, if we land a Target here, other business will follow...as they always do when a new Target comes to town!
