Stop the building of a Crematorium in Green Belt Farleigh

Stop the building of a Crematorium in Green Belt Farleigh

The Issue

A commercial property developer has submitted a planning application to build a large crematorium on Green Belt farmland in Farleigh adjacent to Selsdon Wood (a key National Trust nature reserve).  Farleigh is designated an Area of Great Landscape Merit and is considered by Tandridge District Council as a 'key buffer against the urban creep of London'.  This development, which we understand could run to 'multiple chapels and crematoria' would irreversibly impact current and future generations of nearby residents.

Furthermore, whilst claiming to serve Tandridge, there are no viable access routes for funeral cortèges. All roads from Tandridge to the site are narrow residential roads, which themselves are accessed only through very steep hills, unsuitable for this kind of traffic.

There is clearly no need for this development, with nearby crematoria coping well even with the elevated demand throughout the pandemic.

Immediate action is needed with objections due to Tandridge District Council by end of December.  Please sign this petition and also write to Laura Field at Tandridge District Council - LField@tandridge.gov.uk, quoting planning number TA2020/2007
