TAMUCC must expand reproductive health care resources for students!

TAMUCC must expand reproductive health care resources for students!
The Issue
All across the U.S., universities are increasing their student's access to reproductive health in the face of Roe being overturned. Reproductive health laws heavily influence the decisions of college students across the nation and, as a university in Texas, it’s crucial that spaces like college campuses be leaders in providing accessible, accurate reproductive health resources.
What is our vision for TAMUCC? Molly Davis, President of the Islander Feminists, has built this petition to encompass our student demands:
- Firstly, we would like to see free/accessible emergency contraceptives in our Health Center to eliminate the barriers often faced by college students when trying to access resources. This can be provided at the Health Center or via an Emergency Contraceptive vending machine, as seen across over forty college campuses in the United States.
- Secondly, the Health Center can provide students with a comprehensive, stigma-free resource toolkit modeled after ‘All Options,’ to provide inclusive, stigma-free resources for reproductive health! We urge that TAMUCC do NOT refer students to any Crisis Pregnancy Center (fake clinic) resources, as these centers are religious, non-medical centers that do not provide medically accurate information to people seeking healthcare. Instead, the Health Center can work alongside the Islander Feminists and real local clinics to provide an accurate and comprehensive reproductive health guide made readily accessible to students by Fall 2024!
For more information about these demands, including logistics, research, and details about college campuses that have already made this happen for their students, you can view Molly Davis' Op-Ed here.
