Hello all 112,733 of you!

Thank you so much for tweeting and emailing Boots UK with one clear and unifying message: please drop the price of your period products in line with tampon tax ending.

While some may have thought Boots would ignore us, the opposite is true. Our campaigning WORKED!

Boots quickly messaged us directly, to offer the following statement:

A spokesperson from Boots said: “We are committed to providing affordable period products and other essentials. In January 2021, we reduced the price of our period products by 5% to reflect VAT changes for this category, passing the saving onto customers.” 

When we asked them to please prove they had dropped their prices, they said:

"We provide many period products from a variety of brands. As an example, our Boots Everyday Non-Applicator Tampons Regular (24 pack) cost £1.10 in December 2020. From January 2021 we reduced this product to its current price of £1.05."

We checked and this price difference is correct and still stands today.

We can now showcase Boots as an example of a retailer which has reduced its price when we ask others to follow this example, which will increase our power to influence others.

We are also working with Tax Policy Associates, the organisation which produced the research showing the price of period products didn't lower on average amongst all retailers as a whole, to make sure we are being as accurate as possible.

Early next year we will target our next retailer, using Boots' statement as leverage to incentivise other retailers which haven't lowered their prices to follow Boots' lead.
