Jayne Lawton started this petition to Tameside County Council and

Werneth Low Nature Reserve & Country Park was bought by the local people of Hyde, Tameside  100 years ago in 1921. Families in extreme poverty gave their wages and sacrificed food to all come together to buy Werneth Low Country Park to be a green space, enjoy the wildlife and give people the chance to breathe clean air, enjoy the countryside and forever be protected...

Sadly over the last 20 years, intensive farming has taken place on the fields where Lapwings (now destroyed and gone) Curlews (now destroyed and gone) and the list goes on.

This year on the 7th of June the first cut was made to a protected Meadow (the grass hadn't even grown because of the late Spring) where the few Skylarks were nesting, the cut was made at 11 pm at night, the Skylarks were killed.

A few remaining pairs then tried to rebuild nests on the cut grass, a week later I then witnessed the harvesting of the grass and a Skylark driven over and chopped up and Seagulls then ate her remains while her nesting Male Partner was flying up above trying to stop the Tractor.

If for the people of Hyde 100 years ago, could you help us restore our Wildlife, sadly it is too late for some species, restore our Wildflowers, Butterflies, Bees.

To do this I ask for the fields not to be cut for the next years to leave seedheads on to feed overwintering Birds, provide protection to Wildlife.  To reseed native wildflowers in the meadows, to replant native shrubs and hedgerows.

To not use slurry by the open springs in the fields draining into the main drains.

When a Wildlife Audit has confirmed Wildlife has returned to a good level the fields are only cut in late August / September.

The Hyde War Memorial Trust to release minutes of its 2019 AGM and its AGM to be open and free for the People to attend who they represent.

I'm so sorry to have to write this but if you do have time to support

"Thank you' so much.
