PHASA are holding their AGM at a facility called The Ranch. The Ranch, operated by a large hotel chain Protea, operates the highly unethical practice of breeding, playing with lion cubs and walking with lions. This is an horrendous activity to be a part of.

We are currently fighting a shocking and cruel industry in South Africa called #cannedhunting .. this involves hunting a captive bred and tame lion for an easy kill. 

#cannedhunting involves the following;

• breeding lions in large numbers in captivity
• separating the cubs after a few weeks of birth
• cubs are then offered to the public as a "petting experience"
• older lions are then used in a "walking with lions experience"
• the lioness is then forced to breed again and again
• when lions are too old to play with, they are sold

WHERE DO THEY GO?

Approximately 6,000 lions are in captivity in South Africa. HOWEVER, only approximately 2,500 in the wild. 

4,000 lions are bred each year in South Africa, yet none of them are released into the wild. WHERE DO THEY GO?

Tourists and volunteers are being lied to and conned into thinking that by playing with lions, they are helping wildlife conservation. These captive lions are serving no purpose to wild lions and they do not take pressure off lions in the wild.
