The Personal Peace Pledge is different from an ordinary petition. It does not ask a government, political leader, or organization to act.

Across the world, millions of people want international conflicts resolved peacefully rather than through hatred, coercion, and war. Yet their voices are often fragmented among different nations, organizations, political traditions, religions, and communities.

The Personal Peace Pledge begins with something simple: a personal commitment to make the pursuit of peace part of our political choices and public actions.

I pledge myself to the pursuit of world peace.

I will reject hatred and violence between peoples and support the peaceful resolution of international conflicts.

I will support leaders and candidates who work for peace and oppose those who promote bellicose policies, military aggression, or covert hostile action.

I will use my voice, my vote, and my actions to help make the pursuit of peace a powerful force in public life.

Why Take the Pledge?

A pledge by one person is an expression of principle. A pledge shared by many people can become something more: a visible constituency for peace.

Signing the pledge is not an end in itself. It is a first step toward identifying and connecting people who are willing to use their voices, votes, and actions in the service of peace.

The Personal Peace Pledge is not another peace organization. It is a common commitment that people and organizations with different perspectives can share.

The pledge does not prescribe positions on individual international disputes. Each signer decides how its principles apply to particular circumstances.

A Shared Global Undertaking

The Personal Peace Pledge emerged from discussions within the Green Party Peace Action Committee (GPAX), but it is not a U.S. Green Party initiative.

It belongs to no political party or organization. Signing it implies no political or organizational affiliation.

The Personal Peace Pledge is intended as a shared global undertaking in the service of world peace, open to people of every nationality, political tradition, religion, and background who can affirm its principles.
