As social media grows there’s more cases of sextortion daily. Sextortion is a crime where offender will gain the trust of the victim (victims are usually teens) and then ask for sexual images. Once they get these photos they will ask for money or more pictures or else they will send these photos to the victims friends, family, school, etc. A lot of times the offender attempts to target minors that are more vulnerable or struggling, they look for victims on apps like roblox, discord and snapchat. A lot of times sextortion leads to the suicide of these teens, sextortion happens online but can even lead to real life crimes like the offender selling these photos of the minors and attempting to sex traffic them. I was a victim of sextortion, a man lied about being my age and gained my trust then asked for sexual photos of me, he was really an adult and send the photos to his other adult friend. His friend developed a crush on me and demanded me to date him and send him more photos or else he would send mine to everyone i knew he also threatened to come to my house and rape me. I had made multiple police reports with a lot of evidence but no action was taken, that is the case for lots of victims no action is taken and the offender walks away free and goes to harass more minors.

I think these cases need to be taken more seriously by law enforcement and awareness of sextortion needs to be spread. This can happen to anybody.

I also believe more protection should be added more minors on games like roblox and apps like discord and snapcha. There should be something to prevent adults from contacting minors. There also needs to be more support for this victims. Sextortion can be life ruining.
