The Issue

Residents of Ward 46, we have a pressing issue on our hands that requires your immediate attention and support. Over the past few weeks, we have witnessed a significant increase in the number of vagrants gathering at two critical locations: the corner of Rossouw and Rubida and the intersection of Lynnwood and Camellia. These encampments threaten the safety, privacy, and security of our community.

As a resident of this ward, like many of you, I have seen the impact firsthand. Our neighborhoods, which were once peaceful and secure, are now facing challenges that could escalate into larger social and safety issues if not addressed swiftly. This situation not only affects the aesthetic value of our community but also poses serious risks to our families, particularly our children, who deserve to feel safe playing outside.

We have recognised the urgent need to act. We need to bring this matter to the attention of the Petitions Committee without delay. The urgency of this situation is paramount, as we have a deadline of next Thursday to present this petition. Failure to meet this deadline means waiting until after the elections on 5 November, potentially allowing the situation to worsen.

Our proposed solution is to work with local authorities to identify appropriate assistance and potentially find alternative solutions for those currently residing in these camps. We must advocate for the deployment of community policing forums to improve the safety of our streets. Additionally, we'd like the city council to consider options for temporary housing solutions and social support services that can assist those in need, rather than allowing them to settle in unsafe conditions.

We have the power to initiate change, but it demands collective effort. By signing this petition, you're voicing your concern and urging the relevant authorities to address this issue with the seriousness it deserves. Let us stand together to ensure a safer, more secure, and thriving community for all of Ward 46.

Sign now to demand immediate action and let's safeguard our neighbourhood and future.
