Take Control of The Hazardous Temperatures in Longsjo Middle School

The Issue

The students of Longsjo Middle School are suffering. We are always overheating, and since we live in a low income area, many of us don't have the resources to adapt to our environments. This leads to many students overheating and getting sick on a daily basis. It's not just uncomfortable - it's a health risk.

Our school lacks air conditioning and control of the heat. We believe that implementing thermostats into each classroom would be an effective solution to this problem, allowing us to regulate temperatures for optimal learning conditions.

According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), classroom temperature significantly impacts student performance. A study found that when classrooms were too hot or too cold, test scores could drop by as much as 13%. In addition, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that poor indoor air quality can cause health problems such as headaches and fatigue which can also hinder academic performance.

We understand that funding is an issue but we cannot ignore this problem any longer. The well-being and academic success of our students should be paramount.

We urge Fitchburg officials and school administrators to prioritize this issue by allocating funds towards installing thermostats in every classroom at Longsjo Middle School. Please sign this petition if you believe in creating healthier learning environments for all students.
