Splash Pad for San Luis Obispo

The Issue

Prepared by Kavi Holmes

Summary:
Lucas, a local child, believes that a splash pad in a SLO park would be great for our community; he got the idea while reading  E. Lockhart’s book, Water in the Park.

Reasons:
A splash pad would be a great way for families to cool off in the summer.
A splash pad would also be a perfect place to be social on hot days, because lots of families would come, and you might meet your best friend.
Splash pads use a small amount of water, and the water could be filtered and recycled. The water circulation could even be powered by solar, as summer is filled with sunny days.

Ideas:
The community could raise money for the physical items, then help with the building. That way, it would be cost-efficient, and a way to bring the community together.

What to put in the splash pad:
To help welcome everyone, there would be a splash pad and play area for toddlers and babies, and one for older kids, too. Benches or grassy areas under shade trees would be nice. We could put in archways, a mini waterslide, or a fountain that squirts water. We could include a garden sprinkler or two for kids to run through, or a few geysers to play with.

Thank you so much for considering our petition. We love living in San Luis Obispo County, and people from all over the world love to travel here to vacation. We’d love to have a splash pad to share with them and with each other.

Sincerely,

Kavi Holmes (11) and Lucas Reinhart (5.5)
