I'm acutely aware of the unbearable pain loss brings to families. This is not an abstract issue for me, but a deeply personal fight to prevent others from enduring similar heartache. The A6 Barton bypass runs directly through my Council Ward and is notorious for reckless driving and speeding, particularly at the Faldo Road junction. The driving culture on this stretch of road has been perilous for far too long.

Every day, countless drivers and pedestrians are put at risk by the prevalent disregard for speed limits on this road. Numerous accidents occur, endangering lives and leaving families potentially devastated. It is time for Central Bedfordshire Council to take definitive action to address this pressing safety issue. 

Installing average speed cameras along the entire A6 Barton bypass and possibly beyond is a tangible and effective measure that can drastically reduce speeding and dangerous driving habits. According to Transport for London's (TfL) statistical data from 2022, roads with average speed cameras have seen a reduction in fatal or serious accidents by as much as 50%. Implementing these cameras could greatly enhance road safety and help cultivate a safer driving culture.

Furthermore, the Faldo Road junction particularly needs attention due to its accident-prone nature. Additional clear signage, warning systems, and improved visibility could considerably mitigate the risk of collisions, making it safer for everyone.

This is a call to Central Bedfordshire Council to prioritise the safety of its residents and visitors. By committing to these proven safety measures, we can work towards preventing avoidable tragedies and ensure safer roads for all.
