The Issue

In the heart of an American Federal Service office, I found myself in a nightmare that countless others face each day but often go unseen or unheard. As an employee of the Department of Labor, Wage Hour Division in a Regional Office, I was proud to serve at a GS12 level. However, my pride quickly turned to despair when my disability—a traumatic brain injury (TBI)—was mocked and met with disbelief by my superiors. Instead of receiving support, I was told no one would listen to me. Their disregard was not just for me but extended to the very laws meant to protect employees from such abuse.

Despite my attempts to file accurate complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the issue was swept under the rug by a system that prefers silence over justice. This toxic culture cannot continue, especially when it threatens lives. I reached the lowest point, contemplating ending my own life because of the relentless harassment and the lack of support from leadership.

Even after reaching out to local congressional representatives, I was consistently met with indifference. Senator Kim initiated a conversation about my situation, yet without the possibility of reinstating me or addressing the systemic failure, the dialogue was unfortunately abandoned. This indifference has enabled a culture where abuse goes unchallenged, particularly when leadership ignores issues involving their own members or minorities.

It's time for systemic change. We must ensure that all complaints, especially those concerning workplace abuse within federal services, receive the timely and thoughtful investigation they deserve. Supervisors abusing their power and ignoring our laws must be held accountable. This starts with the relevant authorities establishing a transparent, protected process for reporting and properly addressing these complaints.

I urge all of you to sign this petition, demanding that federal agencies, including the Department of Labor, prioritize accountability and reform their internal complaint investigation processes. By supporting this petition, you stand with me and others who have suffered in silence, calling for a healthier and safer workplace for all. Sign now to demand action, justice, and change.
