The Issue

We, the undersigned, call on Buckinghamshire Council and Thames Valley Police to take urgent and meaningful action to tackle the growing issue of nuisance parking in Aylesbury.

For far too long, vehicles have been consistently parked on pavements and in cycle lanes across the town. This illegal and irresponsible behaviour is not only a public safety hazard—forcing pedestrians, including children, parents with prams, wheelchair users, and the elderly, into busy roads—but it is also causing serious and long-term damage to pavements and infrastructure.

The ongoing destruction of footpaths is making walking even more dangerous, creating trip hazards and uneven surfaces that are both costly and avoidable. Meanwhile, cycle lanes—meant to encourage safer, greener travel—are regularly blocked by parked vehicles, making them effectively unusable.

Despite repeated concerns from residents, nuisance parking continues to be ignored or inadequately addressed by the local authorities. There appears to be little to no enforcement from the council or police, allowing this dangerous practice to become normalized across many neighbourhoods in Aylesbury.

This petition demands that:

Regular and consistent enforcement be introduced to tackle pavement and cycle lane obstruction.

Clear signage and protective infrastructure be installed where necessary.
Fines and penalties be actively issued to deter repeat offenders.
The council commits to repairing damaged pavements in affected areas.

Aylesbury residents deserve safe streets, accessible pathways, and a council that takes their concerns seriously. It’s time to stop overlooking this issue and start holding those responsible to account.
