Hello everyone,

Last week, I met with representatives from Skills IQ and TAFE NSW to chat about introducing changes in the hairdressing curriculum. I am very happy with the meetings - it was such a pleasant experience speaking to people who genuinely cared about education and doing justice to what we are asking for.

We discussed introducing an inclusive term that covers all types of curly, kinky, coily hair in hairdressing curriculums so we aren’t just focusing on Afro hair. The training curriculum is up for review next year. In the meantime, I will be collaborating with TAFE, Skills IQ and Industry Reference Committees to develop changes that I want to see.

I am so grateful for all the support I have received. However, the deciding power lies with the government. They will accept these changes if only they are convinced there is enough demand for it in the industry. This is why your signatures on the petition are so important. Please keep sharing the petition.

A crucial element of convincing the government is having the support of salon owners to embrace this new change and introduce it in their salons. I hope to expand my reach to diverse salon owners and ask them to join this campaign for inclusive hairdressing. I hope the backing and support by the Australian Hairdressing Council will be useful in this regard.

Thank you for all the support, we have crossed 30,000 signatures - I am stoked.

Chrissy
