Three weeks ago, I met with the wonderful Wendy Blair. She walked me through the legal process of bringing about a change in the hairdressing curriculum. I feel more confident knowing all that it entails. It’s quite a long and complex process, but with your support and love, we can do this together.

I also met with representatives from TAFE NSW and SkillsIQ, an independent not-for-profit that oversees development of training in different industries. It was a productive meeting and I was able to convey what I want and the different ways in which we can include textured and afro hair in the curriculum.

TAFE NSW is now considering sourcing mannequin heads with curly and afro hair to facilitate training. I am grateful to the entire industry for getting behind this campaign and being truly supportive of this change. I will be working with SkillsIQ on the changes to be introduced in the curriculum.

I am speaking with educators from TAFE NSW and other independent educators on 23rd July to talk to them about what such a change would mean for them and how we plan to go about this process. I’ll keep you updated about all the progress we make. Thank you for your support.
