Stop The Chemicals Being Added In Our Products

Having support from the government is more important than you think. While the government does control most things politically, they also control the food and products we consume and use. I want you to think about when the last time was that you looked at a label posted on a product? Not only foods, but also hygienic products. Everything has an ingredient label, but most of us have a bad habit of not looking at it. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is in charge of making sure that the products on the market are safe for us to use, but based on the research done, it's a different story.

There are 80,000 chemicals registered as of 2016 and many of them have not been studied by the government. Also, many companies are “self-regulated” which means that these companies do not have to approve these ingredients with the federal government. While the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) was passed by Congress in 1976, which “evaluates potential risks from new and existing chemicals and finds ways to prevent or reduce pollution before it gets into the environment”, it still is not effective enough. These chemicals affect everyone from babies, teens, adults, even pregnant women.

Here are a couple of examples of how we are affected by these chemicals:

Hygiene Products:

Deodorant- contains Aluminum, which studies show can lead to breast cancer.

Body wash, Shampoo & Conditioner- contain Parabens, Synthetic Colors and Fragrance.

Toothpaste- contains Propylene Glycol which is also found in paint, antifreeze and skin care products.

Cleaning Products:

Many cleaning products for an example: Lysol Disinfecting Wipes and Scrubbing Bubbles, while they do clean your surface well, it also states on the label “Hazardous to Humans and Domestic Animals”.

Menstrual Products:

Contains chemicals such as Acetone (found in nail polish remover) and Steyne (used to create car tires). Also the FDA has no required ant ingredients to be disclosed on the packaging of any feminine products. Can cause reproductive issues.

Contains: Pesticides and added Hormones

This even harms our environment. Chemicals found in toothpaste and skin care products etc. are inserted into our mouths, then spit out into drains. The water is then recycled, but some chemicals are rated “parts per trillion or million” which cannot be purified/recycled. Meaning the chemicals stay in our tap water, while we wash our face with it, rinse our mouths, take showers and some even drink it. Also the toxic air of pesticide spray lingering around from being used, was “found that 70% can be attributed to air pollution”.

The main point here is that the laws of the FDA need to be stricter. These dangerous chemicals are causing too many harmful effects to our bodies and environment and I want to bring awareness to it. By signing this petition you are getting me one step closer to changing the way chemicals are used in the U.S.
