Taco Bell Canada: Stop the Animal Cruelty and Go Cage-Free!

The Issue

My name is Christina Wilson. I work for Mercy For Animals, advocating every day for the lives of animals cruelly mistreated in factory farms across Canada. Over the past several months, I have seen firsthand the vast majority of the national food market embrace cage-free egg policies. Amid all of this encouraging progress, however, Taco Bell stands out in its refusal to publicly acknowledge the cruelty in its supply chain.

As its cage-free egg policy in the United States indicates, Taco Bell must be well aware of the egregious abuse inherent in egg factory farms; however, the company refuses to extend the same consideration to hens and customers in Canada. It pains me to think of all the consumers—so many of them undoubtedly animal lovers like me—who unknowingly eat products containing eggs from abused hens.

In response to strong consumer demand, the Canadian food market is close to becoming entirely cage-free. Nearly every major retailer, bakery, packaged food company, and foodservice provider in Canada has recognized the need for change. McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Dairy Queen, A&W, Burger King, Boston Pizza, Subway, and many more of Taco Bell’s competitors have also made this commitment. But Taco Bell still refuses.

Working at MFA has truly opened my eyes to the unjustifiable cruelty in the Canadian food industry that we can no longer ignore. Every time we sit down to eat, we make a choice about the treatment of animals. By refusing to support Taco Bell, we cast our consumer vote against animal cruelty.

I ask that you join me in this endeavor. Please sign and share this petition urging Taco Bell to do the right thing and adopt a 100 percent cage-free egg policy.
