"Allow Students to Wear Shirts Expressing Political Affiliations (Excluding Profanity)"

The Issue

In recent years it has become more important for younger generations to understand and take pride in their identities, including and not limited solely to: gender, sexuality, race, and religion. Pine Tree ISD's dress code does not prohibit students from wearing clothing with graphics or slogans, and are therefore infringing on their students rights to freedom of expression. In a way, it can be seen as specifically targeting LGBTQ+ students, as well as students of color. Ideally, we would like for students to openly take pride in their identities the same as any other student can take pride in their identities and interests .
