Honorary Degree for Kevin Richardson (of the Central Park Five)

The Issue

In 1989, Kevin Richardson, along with four other teenagers, were falsely arrested, coerced and imprisoned for a violent crime committed inside of Central Park.

Serving between six and 13 years in prison, each of these five men were exonerated, with DNA evidence, and a confession, absolving them of their crimes. While their records are expunged, unfortunately, there is no way for these men to get those years back.

In a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey, Kevin told the audience about his young dream of attending Syracuse University. While this dream could never be fulfilled due to circumstance, it is never too late to do the right thing.

The Syracuse University student body would like to stand behind Kevin Richardson, and urge administration to award him an honorary degree from this university.
