The Collaroy Plateau Water Tower, built in 1928 and relocated to Collaroy Plateau in 1949, is a listed item of Heritage significance for its engineering and place in local area history.

It is an iconic structure on the Northern Beaches which has been a marker of place for nearly 70 years whether viewed from hilltop, road, valley or sea. It is particularly significant for the community of Collaroy Plateau where it has existed for as long as the suburb itself.

We request that the NSW Government review and investigate the following with regards to Sydney Water’s plan to demolish the Tower.

1. As custodians of the water tower (a heritage listed piece of infrastructure) investigate why Sydney Water have allowed it to deteriorate to the point where they now classify it as ‘structurally unsound’
2. Investigate options for maintaining the water tower as an historic feature and any options for re-use (e.g. supply of rain water for maintaining adjacent sports field or other)
